BIG STONE GAP, VA - Billy E. Aistrop 78, passed away at Lonesome Pine Hospital on Sunday (August 11, 2019)
Billy was a Wise county Native, and spent his entire life here in Big Stone Gap. He worked at the Meade paper plant before he was injured. He joined the military and served the country in the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Tom and Mary Aistrop, his brothers; David AIstrop, Tommy AIstrop, Frank Aistrop, Dewey Aistrop and Charles Aistrop.

 

Ruth L. Stapleton

BIG STONE GAP, VA - Ruth L. Stapleton, 94 passed away peacefully on Monday (August 12, 2019) at her home surrounded by her family.

Lana Gilley, 75, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on August 15, 2019 at the East Tennessee Funeral Home, 2630 Hwy 75 Blountville, TN 37617 with a celebration of life to follow in the chapel with Pastor Jeff Strong officiating.

Clara Woods

KINGSPORT - Clara Woods, 92, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, August 11, 2019, at her residence following a long illness.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 6:45 pm Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Phil Harris officiating.

 

Editorial: Mount Carmel leaders must take a stand

If Mount Carmel is to have any chance at succeeding, a majority of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen must stand solidly against Alderman Steven McLain, whose efforts to undermine the city manager and tear down the wall of separation between members of the BMA and city employees will continue until voters replace him.
McLain appears to have a large chip on his shoulder. He is a former city employee hired by his father-in-law, former Mayor Larry Frost, who was fired by voters three years ago after leading the community through a contentious period of repeated turmoil.

Hazel Barker Wicker, 97, formerly of Kingsport, TN died 8:40 p.m. Monday, August 12, 2019 in Clemson, SC.

Sheila Charleen Robinette

Sheila Robinette, born on February 22, 1949, and born again on January 15, 1973, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 12, 2019. 
She worked at Holston Valley Medical Center administering EKGs.  Sheila was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for 46 years where she taught Sunday school, worked in the bus ministry and helped in the youth group.  In her years of declining health, she couldn’t say very much but God still used her as a witness to His saving power.

KINGSPORT - Madolyn Frucht, 72, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 13, 2019.

Julie Katelen Rebecca Presley, 25, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019.
