Screenings show reading gains for Sullivan elementary students

BLOUNTVILLE — Sullivan County elementary students showed gains in the screening assessments administered by the district, with evidence of improvement districtwide.
The district tests all students in kindergarten through sixth grade three times per year, in line with Tennessee mandates, to gauge reading and math proficiency.

 

Lauveda Agnes Goodson

ROGERSVILLE - Lauveda Agnes Goodson, age 87 of Rogersville, passed away, Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Greeneville Community Hospital East.
Visitation hours will be 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.
Funeral service will be conducted 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, August 14, 2019 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating. Graveside service will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Butchers Valley Cemetery.

 

Barbara Fern Price

Barbara Fern Price, 79, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Runk & Pratt independent living in Lynchburg.  She was the wife of the late Basil Price.
Born in Kingsport, TN, December 19, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Charles Alex Luster and Shirley Rich Luster.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gene Luster.
She is survived by her loving and devoted sister, Linda Kay Pratt and brother-in-law, Dr.

 

Jerry Belcher

APPALACHIA VA - Jerry Belcher 73, passed away peacefully on Monday (August 12, 2019) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Jerry was a minister at "My Fathers House" in Appalachia VA, he enjoyed fishing. He was truly a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bradley and Ruby (Holloway) Belcher, brothers Bobby, Dannie, Sammy and Bill Jack; sisters, Helen, Irene, Phyllis.

 

Norman Wayne Wilson, Jr.

KINGSPORT - Norman Wayne Wilson, Jr., 53, of Kingsport, departed this life to be with the Lord, August 7, 2019 at his residence.
Born in Scranton, PA on November 5, 1965, a son of Norman, Sr. and Sandra “Sandy” Wilson; he had resided in this area most of his life. He graduated from Sullivan North High School in 1983. Norman was a veteran of the United States Marines, having served in the Gulf War and Army Reserves.  Norman was a lifetime member of the V.F.W.

 

Edna Bloomer Bledsoe

BLACKWATER, VA - Edna Bloomer Bledsoe, 90, of Blackwater, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday afternoon, August 10,2019 at NHC Kingsport.
The family will receive friends from 11 until 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 14, at Burke’s Union Primitive Baptist Church in Blackwater, VA. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm with Elders Virgil Lipe, Roger Trent, and Scott Tipton officiating. Music will be provided by church family. Burial will follow in the family cemetery.

Arthur Thomas (Bud) Moore

Arthur Thomas (Bud) Moore, born on August 20, 1931 in Kingsport, Sullivan County, Tennessee, passed into glory on August 9, 2019.
He leaves behind three children, Gail Lane (Ned) of Grayson, Georgia, Arthur T. (Skip) Moore, Jr. (Dianna) of Snellville, Georgia, and Myra Fabian (Jeff) of Birmingham, Alabama; six beautiful grandchildren: Shelley (Justin) Vonlinsowe, Nick Moore, Cori (Cesar Cruz) Moore, Jake Fabian, Arin Fabian, and Robin Huie; three great-grandchildren, James and Josie Fabian and Arthur Cruz.
