Fire meeting set for Camp Sherman

Firefighters plan to hold a public meeting today in Camp Sherman to discuss the Green Ridge Fire.The meeting is set for 6:30 p. m. at the Camp Sherman Fire Hall at 13033 S. W. Forest Service Road 1419, said Kate Goossens, spokeswoman for the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center in Prineville. Sparked by lightning Wednesday, the fire northwest of Sisters had burned 150 acres and was 25 percent contained as of Sunday.

 

Snowboarder’s body found on Mount Hood

MOUNT HOOD — A dozen rescuers armed with chain saws and other tools chipped away at tons of ice and snow Sunday to recover the body of a 25-year-old snowboarder killed when an ice tunnel collapsed on Mount Hood.The snowboarder, Collin Backowski, of Colorado, was traveling with five companions when the collapse hit Saturday afternoon.

Man arrested in motorcycle theft

A man who allegedly stole a motorcycle a little over two weeks ago was arrested Friday night in the Deschutes River Woods area, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office.Shortly before 8 p. m., a deputy attempted to pull over a man on a 1985 Honda motorcycle near Brookswood Boulevard.
