Man comes forward with 27 guns stolen from Kettle Falls police chief

SPOKANE — A man previously unknown to law enforcement has returned 27 guns that were stolen last spring from the home of the Kettle Falls police chief.
The man called Chief Chris Courchene’s office on Monday, a day after The Spokesman-Review broke news of the April 6 burglary and the complicated, nine-month investigation that followed.

Sheriff: Man killed parents, lived with bodies for days

SAMMAMISH — Authorities say a man killed his parents at their Sammamish home and lived there for five days before killing himself when police arrived to check on their welfare Tuesday.
The King County Sheriff’s Office says 34-year-old Matthew Ficken may have killed them because he didn’t want his them to sell the house and move.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified 68-year-old Lorraine Ficken and 72-year-old Robert Ficken as homicide victims Thursday. The office says Lorraine and Robert Ficken died from shotgun wounds Jan. 10.

 

Police: Man breaks into restaurant, stabs employee

HILLSBORO, Ore. — Employees at a Taco Bell in Hillsboro, Ore., barricaded themselves in the back room and called 911 after an armed man forced his way into the eatery after it had closed for the night.
KOIN reports that police were called to the restaurant around 2:40 a.m. Friday after the man barged in. An employee was stabbed in the wrist after confronting the man.
When police arrived, the suspect was in the walk-in freezer. He had stabbed himself several times, police said. He was Tased and taken into custody.

 

Pentagon IDs US Army Ranger killed in Afghanistan

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon says a U.S. Army Ranger has died as a result of gunshot wounds suffered during combat in Afghanistan on Jan. 13.
Sgt. Cameron A. Meddock, 26, of Spearman, Texas, died Thursday in Landstuhl, Germany. The attack was in the Jawand District in northwestern Afghanistan.
