A man and woman from the Lone Star State are in Texas-sized trouble with Tewksbury cops for allegedly keeping a small arsenal in their hotel room.Francho Bradley, 59, and Adrianne Jennings, 40, both of Frisco, Texas, were ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing after they were arraigned for breaking numerous firearms laws, including possession of a bump stock.Prosecutors said Bradley called the police himself Saturday afternoon.

 

Prosecutor: Marine recruiter is 'person of interest' in disappearance

A Suffolk prosecutor today said a U.S. Marine recruiter is a "person of interest" in the disappearance of a 21-year-old Boston recruit. Frank Walter Lipka, 39, is being investigated by Boston police for the disappearance of his roommate, Joseph Brancato, 21, prosecutor Michael Lefleur said. Brancato, a Marine recruit, reportedly was last seen in November.Lipka was held on $10,000 cash bail today on an unrelated assault with a dangerous weapon charge.

 

Guilty verdicts in 'Puppy Doe' case, sentencing tomorrow

Radoslaw Czerkawski was found guilty today of a dozen animal abuse charges in the “Puppy Doe” case and now faces the possibility of being locked up for decades.Each of the 12 animal abuse convictions carry up to five years in prison. It will be up to the judge if he serves them concurrently or consecutively, for a possible total of 60 years, according to the Norfolk District Attorney's Office.He is set to be sentenced tomorrow in Norfolk Superior Court in Dedham. Czerkawski was found not guilty of misleading police.

 

Woman facing deportation in sanctuary at Springfield church

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — A Western Massachusetts church is providing sanctuary to a Peruvian woman facing deportation and her two children.Members of the Springfield Interfaith Sanctuary Coalition said Monday the South Congregational United Church of Christ in Springfield is openings its doors to Gisella Collazo and her American-born children.Collazo is married to an American citizen and has been in the U.S. for 17 years. She was told by immigration officials that she had until Tuesday to return to Peru.

 

ATV driver remains in hospital, charged with drunken driving

WEST BROOKFIELD — Police in Massachusetts say an all-terrain vehicle crash over the weekend hospitalized a man who is now facing drunken driving charges.West Brookfield police say the 38-year-old Palmer man faces charges including drunken driving and driving with a revoked license. West Brookfield Police Sgt. Matthew Letendre says the ATV driver was attempting to turn left onto Route 9 when he lost control on Saturday, sending the ATV spinning and over a guardrail.

 

St. Thomas Aquinas holds off opening of New England campus

NORTHFIELD, Mass. — Plans for a California college to expand to Massachusetts have been put on hold until next year.St. Thomas Aquinas College says it still plans to open a New England campus in Northfield, but the project requires a more lenient timeline. The Greenfield Recorder reports the college took ownership of the campus, formerly Northfield Mount Hermon School, last May.Originally, the college planned to open the branch campus in time for the 2018-19 academic year. It now plans to open August 2019.

 

Police: Boston Public Schools bus hit T bus in predawn crash

The driver of a Boston Public Schools bus that collided with an MBTA bus early this morning has been hospitalized, a schools spokesman said.The collision occurred at Washington Street and Columbus Avenue in Roxbury at 5:43 a.m.Transit police said there were no children on the school bus. Five passengers on the Route 44 T bus reported minor injuries.T police said their preliminary investigation suggests the school bus driver was at fault, That driver was transported to an area hospital, according to BPS spokesman Daniel O'Brien.

 

1 killed in early morning stabbing in Boston

BOSTON — Boston police are investigating a fatal stabbing in the city.Officers responded to a call about the stabbing at about 3 a.m. Sunday in the city's Dorchester neighborhood.Police in a statement say they found a man in his 20s suffering from life-threatening stab wounds. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died. The victim's name has not been made public.No arrests have been announced.It was the city's 10th homicide of the year.

 

DA: Suspect, 55, arrested for murder of wife, 47, in Lynn

A 55-year-old man was arrested this morning in connection with a murder that occurred on Chase Street in Lynn.The victim, age 47, is believed to be his wife, said Carrie Kimball Monahan, spokeswoman for Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett.It was not immediately clear when the alleged homicide occurred.The identities of the victim and suspect have not been released.The suspect is expected to be arraigned sometime today in Lynn District Court, Kimball Monahan said.
