‘Pay the price’ for Puppy Doe

Convicted “Puppy Doe” abuser Radoslaw Czerkawski was sentenced yesterday to eight to 10 years in prison followed by two years probation — a sentence one member of the jury called fair but an advocate for animals called an injustice to the memory of the tortured pit bull.

 

More action at Peabody house of horrors

Law enforcement officials returned yesterday to a house of horrors in Peabody, more than three months after FBI agents joined state and local police in cleaning up the trash-cluttered property on Farm Avenue to search for evidence of potential bodies, according to sources.Essex District Attorney spokeswoman Carrie Kimball Monahan said officials “anticipated it was going to take a long time, what with the weather and all.”

 

Springfield mayor sends email to city agencies to crack down on church housing illegal immigrant

The mayor of Springfield is calling for a church providing sanctuary to an illegal immigrant and her two children to be inspected for housing violations and is seeking to have the house of worship stripped of its tax-exempt status.In an email yesterday to several city departments, Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, who previously said he was “disappointed that (church officials) would use and exploit this family for their own causes,” ordered that the church be inspected for housing violations and urged officials to “pursue to the fullest extent of the law.”

 

Peabody house of horrors searched again

Law enforcement returned today to a house of horrors in Peabody, where FBI agents, state and local police began cleaning up the trash-cluttered property on Farm Avenue in January to search for any evidence.Carrie Kimball Monahan, spokeswoman for Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett, whose office is leading the investigation, said, "We anticipated it was going to take a long time, what with the weather and all."

 

Police: 79-year-old man stabbed in supermarket

NEWTON, Mass. — A Massachusetts man charged with stabbing a 79-year-old shopper inside a supermarket has been ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.A not guilty plea to a charge of assault with intent to murder was entered on behalf of 23-year-old Matthew Muradov at his arraignment Tuesday. A judge ordered him to Bridgewater State Hospital for the evaluation.Newton police say they responded to the Star Market in the Auburndale section of the city at about 2 p.m. Monday for reports of a stabbing.Muradov was arrested outside the store.

'Puppy Doe' tormentor sentenced to 8-to-10 years in jail
