'Spartacus' star Whitfield dies of lymphoma at 39

Andy Whitfield, the 39-year-old star of the cable series "Spartacus: Blood and Sand," has died. "On a beautiful sunny Sydney spring morning, surrounded by his family, in the arms of his loving wife, our beautiful young warrior Andy Whitfield lost his 18 month battle with lymphoma cancer," Whitfield's wife Vashti said in a statement. "He passed peacefully surrounded by love. Thank you to all his fans whose love and support have help carry him to this point. He will be remembered as the inspiring, courageous and gentle man, father and husband he was."

 

HBO picks up new Aaron Sorkin pilot to series

Aaron Sorkin is back with another series set in the television world — HBO announced Thursday it has ordered his new hour-long pilot, about the adventures of a cable news show, to series.
This time, Sorkin’s story is centered around a cable news anchor, played by Jeff Daniels, as well as his staff and new executive producer. Emily Mortimer stars as the EP, and Sam Waterston returns after his long “Law and Order” stint to play their boss.
