HTC’s phones have been struggling to make a dent in the Android market for years now, but the company may soon have a savior: Google itself. Digitimes reports (via Taiwanese publication Commercial Times) that HTC is in the “final stage of negotiation with Google for selling its smartphone business unit.” It’s not clear yet whether Google is planning on buying HTC’s smartphone business entirely, or simply becoming a “stategic partner.” Keep in mind this is only about smartphones; HTC’s VR unit, Vive, seems to be doing fine on its own for now.
