Firefighters don’t think anyone was injured in a fire that damaged four Wylds Road apartments Friday, Augusta Fire Chief Chris James said.
They were searching Wylds Woods apartments a third time around 1:30 p.m. to make sure no one was inside, he said.
Several units were called around noon to the fire, which was pit out by about 1:30 p.m., James said.
“When we first pulled up, the fire was already coming out of the roof; it was already fully involved,” he said.

A man has been charged in connection to the armed robbery of an Aiken Waffle House overnight.
Jamarion Raheem Bell, 24, of Aiken, was booked into the Aiken County Detention Center on charges of armed robbery and possession of a weapon during commission of a crime.

WASHINGTON - As Democrats closed out a marathon sit-in on the U.S. House floor demanding action on gun control, Augusta Congressman Rick W. Allen on Thursday echoed many Republicans in calling the protest “childish games” that obstruct the legislative process and serve as “a distraction from the real issue at hand ­— terrorism.”
Spokeswoman Madison Fox said Allen didn’t support an up-or-down gun vote because the measures in question had already been struck down in the U.S. Senate and the House Appropriations Committee.

An Augusta man broke into a woman’s apartment Wednesday afternoon while fleeing from police.
According to an incident report, Dantrez Daniel Thomas, 20, failed to stop at a stop sign at Telfair and Fourth streets around 3 p.m. Thomas then led police on a chase that ended at East Augusta Commons apartments on E. Telfair Street where he jumped from the vehicle while it was in motion. The vehicle crashed into a fence.

Authorities have identified the man who died in a house fire in North Augusta on Wednesday evening.
Leotis Sullivan Sr., 69, was pronounced dead at the scene around 9 p.m., according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton. The fire, which began around 8 p.m., occurred on Woodberry Lane in Belvedere. Sullivan was the owner of the home, Carlton confirmed.
Autopsy results showed that Sullivan died from carbon monoxide poisoning and thermal injury, according to Carlton. He said Sullivan’s death will be ruled accidental.
