Sgt. Mitchell Woodard of the Amarillo Police Department has made several visits to the Northwest Texas Healthcare system in Amarillo this week following his roadside efforts to help a man who was severely injured in a single vehicle accident last weekend.
“I did some inquiries and I found out where he was, and I’ve been going up there almost every day,” said Woodard, who was off duty at the time when he came across a serious accident in Donley County.
The man and his relatives, who have become “like family” to Woodard, will be released from the hospital today.

Amarillo Community Market is moving to the Santa Fe Building Parking Lot at Ninth Avenue and Tyler Street once again today to make room for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Market hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Because Polk Street will be closed to traffic, the best way to arrive will be to exit I-40 on Washington and go north on Tyler Street to the market.
The Komen race starts at 8 a.m. at Fourth Avenue and Polk Street.
Registration is $35 adults and $30 children and $50 for pet dogs.

The Discovery Center’s new exhibit for all ages is Top Secret: License to Spy, where you can test your dexterity and stealth as you maneuver through laser beams without getting caught, learn how to write and crack codes, and be enveloped in the covert and surreptitious world where video surveillance, shoe phones, and encoded messages will help find clues to solve the case.

Carlos Mencia remembers his trip to Amarillo in 2012 because of his experience with Rocky Mountain oysters (deep-fried bull testicles) at The Big Texan Steak Ranch.

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz endorsed Donald Trump on Friday after months of withholding his support from the Republican presidential nominee who defeated him in the primaries. 
"After many months of careful consideration, of prayer and searching my own conscience, I have decided that on Election Day, I will vote for the Republican nominee, Donald Trump," Cruz said in a statement released to The Texas Tribune.

Sara Freese, director of the Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport, resigned today for personal reasons, according to an internal memo sent out by Interim City Manager Terry Childers.
An acting director will later be named by Childers, the memo read.
Amarillo City Council members said they were shocked by the news and said they didn’t know why Freese resigned.

According to several social media messages published on Thursday, an incident allegedly occurred during an Amarillo High School Mexican-themed pep rally that involved throwing tortillas.
“We are disappointed to learn of the context of Amarillo High's pep rally,” said a statement from Amarillo Independent School District Thursday night. “Before the game tonight, Amarillo High students met with Caprock’s principal to apologize. We hope this situation opened up an opportunity for discussion about the importance of being respectful of others.”
