Off-duty Amarillo cop renders aid at accident

Sgt. Mitchell Woodard of the Amarillo Police Department has made several visits to the Northwest Texas Healthcare system in Amarillo this week following his roadside efforts to help a man who was severely injured in a single vehicle accident last weekend. “I did some inquiries and I found out where he was, and I’ve been going up there almost every day,” said Woodard, who was off duty at the time when he came across a serious accident in Donley County. The man and his relatives, who have become “like family” to Woodard, will be released from the hospital today. read more
