Oakwood Hills resident Jessica Alm was appointed to the Village Board after the board accepted Trustee Kurt Hummel’s resignation during its meeting Thursday night.

Village President Chad Rider said Hummel was working as a trustee up until Thursday despite submitting his resignation earlier.

The staff of White Oaks of Huntley and Kindred Hospice collaborated Friday to organize a vow renewal ceremony for residents of the assisted-living facility and their spouses.

White Oaks at Huntley administrator Megan Benzel said staff had spoken with the facility’s hospice chaplain, who agreed to lead vow renewals for some of the hospice patients.

From there, Benzel said, the idea grew into something bigger, where families, employees and nonhospice patients were invited.

Roadwork in Crystal Lake on the westbound Crystal Lake Avenue lane that would have led to a lane closure and detour has been postponed.

Westbound Crystal Lake Avenue originally was going to be closed between East and Main streets beginning Monday, but the work will instead take place at the end of the month or in early March, according to the city.

When work begins, the road is slated to remain closed for utility work for about a month.

A bill submitted Thursday by state Rep. Steve Reick would create a county-controlled, state-funded agency to replace the Department of Children and Family Services’ McHenry County office.

Reick spoke at a news conference Friday about the death of Crystal Lake’s AJ Freund, whose parents are accused of beating the 5-year-old to death in April.

A teacher at Crystal Lake’s Hannah Beardsley Middle School was one of only 175 educators in Illinois to receive National Board Certification in 2019. 

Eighth grade language arts teacher Patricia MacNally recently was recognized by the National Board Certification for Professional Teaching Standards for renewing her National Board Certification, according to Crystal Lake Elementary School District 47.

MacNally is one of only a handful of District 47 teachers to receive the recognition.

Braithwaite, a longtime Barrington resident who recently moved to Crystal Lake, will be on hand for the opening reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The show runs until March 21.
