A Huntsville woman was attacked Thursday night by her ex-boyfriend who said she owed him money.

David Sedaris will host a book signing, reading and Q&A session with fans at 7 p.m. June 17 at Barnes and Noble in Bridge Street Town Centre. The free event will be open to the public.

She told police it started with two vehicles shooting at a home in the 2200 block of Norwood Drive close to 2:30 p.m. Thursday. According to the police report, she said her children were the ones who alerted her to the shooting outside, and that's when she saw the vehicles in the roadway. She said they appeared to be firing at a home across the street.

Police officers from Huntsville and other jurisdictions have been investigating this operation, which used online tactics to solicit prostitution to individuals and businesses among areas of north Alabama. Dewaun Cartral Stephens, 34, of Huntsville was a particular target for Huntsville police. He is charged with two counts of first-degree human trafficking and is in the Madison County Jail on a $100,000 bond. Also arrested were Tammie Denise Garner, 53, of Oakman and Tiffany Lee Meck, 24, of Decatur. Bot hare charged with soliciting prostitution. Meck's mother, 43-year-old Geneva Elaine Meck, is charged with aiding and abetting prostitution for allegedly providing means for her daughter's solicitation.

The work is taking place along a 350-foot stretch of Dallas Branch Bypass creek just south of A.M. Booth's Lumberyard and Lone Goose Saloon..
