Power outages reported in downtown Huntsville, Hazel Green, Madison

Power is out in downtown Huntsville from Holmes Avenue south to Northside Square and east from Pollard Street to Lincoln Street. This is primarily a commercial area, although a small number of residences are affected.

Troopers say James Nelson Whitbeck, 55, was riding a motorcycle on Murphy Hill Road about four miles north of Huntsville Saturday afternoon when he collided with a New Holland backhoe. He succumbed to his injuries the next day at Huntsville Hospital.

Police: Russellville man faces 8 counts of attempted murder for setting fire to neighbor's house

Russellville police and fire crews responded to a fire call on Lauderdale Street Thursday night and ended up taking 50-year-old Jeffery Dewayne Baker into custody. Police Chief Chris Hargett said Baker admitted to getting into an altercation with his neighbors in that house. He said Baker then tore the foam out of some cushions and used those to try to set fire to the house in two spots.
