South Sisters climber, 82, airlifted from mountain Monday

An 82-year-old man spent Sunday night on South Sister before being rescued Monday by Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue personnel Monday.Robert Haynes began his annual solo climb Sunday morning and summited, according to a sheriff’s news release. But night had fallen before he started his descent. Haynes had been in contact with his wife during the day and reported to her that he would be fine alone on the mountain overnight.

 

Prineville plane crash victim identified

The pilot of the crashed aircraft Sunday near Prineville airport was identified by Prineville Police Department as Murray Allen Crowe, 47, of Terrebonne.Crowe was pronounced dead at the scene after crashing an experimental Challenger II aircraft around 11:30 a. m., according to reports in The Bulletin.

 

Hit-and-run incident sparks car chase

A chase by Redmond Police of a hit-and-run driver ended Sunday afternoon with a sport utility vehicle crashed in a field and its driver jailed on suspicion of driving under the influence and other charges, according to a police statement.Brandy Michelle Carmack, 36, was booked into the Deschutes County jail on suspicion of felony eluding police, reckless driving, hit and run, reckless endangering, driving under the influence of intoxicants and possession of a controlled substance, according to Redmond Police Lt.

A Bend man and a Madras woman remained in the hospital Sunday night following a rollover wreck early Saturday morning near Redmond.The driver, Earnest Hackett, 25, was in fair condition, and the passenger, Breanne Ward, 24, was in serious condition, said a nursing supervisor at St.

 

Small brush fire causes power outages

An unfortunate squirrel sparked a small brush fire Sunday morning near the Athletic Club of Bend (61615 Athletic Club Drive), causing more than 100 homes in southwest Bend to be without power for about four hours.The squirrel was on top of a power pole and “grounded out" a live wire, or caused a short circuit, according to the Bend Fire Department. Burning material then dropped to the ground and caused about a 500-square-foot brush fire.
