WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. charged seven hackers linked to the Iranian government with executing large-scale cyberattacks on dozens of banks as well as a small dam outside New York City — intrusions that law enforcement officials said reached into America's infrastructure and disrupted the nation's financial system.An indictment announced Thursday by the Justice Department shows a determination by overseas hackers to cripple vital American interests, the officials said.

 

Police investigating robbery of Savannah pizza delivery driver

Savannah-Chatham police department’s robbery detectives are investigating a robbery that occurred about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of southeast 36th Street.Two black male suspects approached the 40-year-old male victim, a pizza delivery driver, and demanded money, said Sonny Cohrs, police spokesman.Detectives said the suspects were wearing khaki pants, white vests, blue bandanas and blue pants.

 

Feds indict 24 Savannah residents on firearms, drug-trafficking charges

Federal prosecutors say 24 Savannah residents have been indicted on firearms and drug-trafficking charges after a joint operation between federal and local police targeting a crime-ridden neighborhood in midtown.
In an ongoing effort to crack down on violence and gang activities, Savannah-Chatham police and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives focused on Cann Park, where crime has risen recently, said Edward Tarver, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Georgia.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Police in North Carolina are cracking down on speeders with a simple message: Obey the posted speed limit or pay a fine, even if you're only going a bit over.The N.C. Governor's Highway Safety Program says in a news release it will announce its "Obey the Sign or Pay the Fine" campaign on Thursday. Both state and local law enforcement are participating.

COLUMBIA — A Jasper County Lexus dealership wants permission to fill in freshwater wetlands to increase the size of its parking lot.
State regulators received a request for the project’s coastal zone consistency determination this month from Hilton Head Lexus, which is adjacent to U.S. 278 in Hardeeville. The site sits upstream of the Great Swamp, which flows into the New River.
