DETROIT – During the height of LeBron James’ passive aggression with the Cleveland Cavaliers came a Twitter post of “Stop trying to find a way to FIT-OUT and just FIT-IN,” a shot offered in the direction of then-teammate Kevin Love. Now, nine years later, after all was patched up on the way to the two sharing in the Cavaliers’ 2016 NBA championship, fit out and fit in have taken on different contexts in this career twilight run by Love with the Miami Heat. As in some games his somewhat lumbering style fits in just fine. And as in some games he acknowledges the work as backup to center Bam Adebayo could be better left to those younger, more nimble. And, no, no passive aggression involved, just an appreciation for the decisions that have to be made by coach Erik Spoelstra. “I think it’s a situation that’s just fluid,” Love said ahead of Monday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena. So fluid that Nikola Jovic at times has been the option to step in when Adebayo has to step out.
