Is it job-saving season for the Dolphins or straight to the offseason with three games left?

HOUSTON — The Miami Dolphins’ loss Sunday to the Houston Texans terminated the team’s realistic playoff hopes. Although the Dolphins are not mathematically eliminated, they are two games out of the final AFC wild card spot with three weeks remaining in the regular season. They have a 6 percent chance of qualifying for the postseason, according to the New York Times’ playoff simulator. But no one from the disappointed Dolphins was channeling Jim Carrey in “Dumb and Dumber,” saying, “So you’re telling me there’s a chance.” Everyone understood Miami had run out of margin for error toward playoff dreams entering Sunday and losing against the Texans essentially meant the season was over. So what do the Dolphins still have to play for? Could the final three games have implications on how owner Steve Ross decides the direction of the franchise going forward or does he have his mind made up, one way or the other, on the status of general manager Chris Grier and coach Mike McDaniel? Outside the organization, some think it’s time to make sweeping changes. Some believe the front office and head coach deserve to let this roster core run its course and get another chance in 2025. The fact of the matter is discourse for change at the top of the organization is not something considered blasphemy.
