The once-crowded docks just north of Interstate 10 sit mostly empty, with just a few slips filled with storm-worn boats, their metal railings warped and twisted. Buoys dangle uselessly off planks bent into the Neches, and light shines through holes in a metal roof over the marina. The former home of the Beaumont Yacht Club was almost entirely submerged during Harvey, when the swollen Neches River pushed water within 2 feet of the high awning covering the slips. Signs of the storm are still evident, but construction is now underway on a new RV park that will open this spring behind the docks, which will be repaired and reopened. "We're going to be rebuilding all the slips," said project manager Ronny Sprinkle.
