Ingomar sweeps in blowout fashion

Ingomar swept its MHSAA Class 2A first-round baseball playoff series 12-0, 18-0 Thursday against J.Z. George behind the strength of two no-hitters.
Zack Koon was the Game 1 winner on the mound and Tyler Pickens the Game 2 winner for the Falcons (18-7). Kelton Hall belted a home run and J.D. Gault had two doubles for the Falcons in Game 1.
North Pontotoc 6, Tupelo 2: Tanner Turk and Sheffield Anthony had two hits apiece to lead the Vikings to a non-playoff road victory against Tupelo.

 

Tigers drop series opener to No. 4 seed

RIPLEY – When a lower seed hangs around with a higher seed late into playoff games, upsets can happen.
A four-run seventh inning aided by two Ripley errors helped Leake Central pull the 6-5 upset Thursday night in the first game of the first round of the MHSAA 4A State Baseball Playoffs.
Ripley entered the game with the No. 1 seed, while Leake Central was the No. 4 seed.

 

Bulldogs stem the Tide in series opener

STARKVILLE – No. 15 Mississippi State is off to a good start in its attempt to win a fifth consecutive SEC series.
The Diamond Dogs held on for a 6-5 victory over Alabama on Thursday to improve to 26-14 overall and 11-5 in league play.
MSU broke up a 3-3 tie in the fifth frame by plating three runs with two outs. Josh Lovelady drove in Ryan Gridley on a single to right and Elijah MacNamee also motored home on a throwing error on the play. Harrison Bragg followed up with an RBI double.

OXFORD – As the second half of SEC play arrives, Ole Miss is hoping its second baseman continues his recent power streak.
The Rebels take on Missouri tonight at 6:30 at Swayze Field to begin the SEC weekend.

 

New Site baseball makes the playoffs

New Site High School fielded its first baseball team in 1989 and for every year team’s season has ended in the middle of April with the regular-season finale.
Until this year.
For the first time in school history, New Site will experience a taste of the postseason. The Royals will travel to East Side today for the first game in a best-of-three series.
