TPSD opens registration for ‘Camp Opportunity’

TUPELO – Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) will dominate the Tupelo Public School District’s “Camp Opportunity” this summer.
The program, which features four week-long sessions, each featuring several camps, in June, has been put on by the district for nearly 20 years and currently takes place at Lawndale Elementary School.
Teresa Gregory, Camp Opportunity director, said the camps are designed to help students exercise their brains during the summer when they’re out of school.

 

Oxford student wins state volunteer award

OXFORD – An Oxford High School student was named one of Mississippi’s top two youth volunteers of 2017 for leading an effort to improve a scenic hiking trail between the Ole Miss University Museum and the historic home of William Faulkner.
Luke Kelly, a junior at OHS, was awarded the designation by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism.

 

OUR OPINION: Addition to Autism Center will enhance services

An important Northeast Mississippi resource enhanced its services this week.
The Autism Center of North Mississippi held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday to officially open its new sensory room. The space will provide children on the Autism spectrum who receive services at the Tupelo center with a place to play with sensory equipment and enjoy a light show to help meet their sensory needs.
