Drought projected to dock from hay harvest

STARKVILLE – Last year’s drought will likely affect this year’s hay acreage in Mississippi.
Rocky Lemus, forage specialist with the Mississippi State University Extension Service, said he anticipates about 690,000 hay acres. The state had about 750,000 acres devoted to hay production in 2016.

 

Severe weather takes aim at Mississippi, other southern states

TUPELO – Forecasters say there will be a risk of large hail and wind damage as thunderstorms threaten Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.
The national Storm Prediction Center has placed a large part of Mississippi at the highest risk of severe storms on Saturday. Forecasters say that area includes more than 1.3 million people and includes the cities of Jackson, Tupelo and Vicksburg.

 

TPSD makes plans for STEM initiative

TUPELO – Tupelo Public School District officials are gearing up to roll out the district’s science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) initiative when the upcoming school year begins in August.
