HoneyBaked Ham franchisees 'honored' to add museum cafe

DAYTONA BEACH - The family that owns the HoneyBaked Ham & Cafe restaurant in the office complex behind Volusia Mall will be opening a second location at the new Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art on Aug. 1.The new eatery, which will be called The HoneyBaked Ham Cafe at the Brown Museum, will start off employing three workers, and will be open the same hours as the art museum: Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m.

 

'Farm to Table' proponents to address chamber

ORMOND BEACH - Frank Villante is back as general manager at LuLu's Oceanside Grill after a three-year hiatus.The reason for the extended time away from the restaurant he helped open eight years ago: Health complications arose after a knee-replacement surgery in 2010.Villante returned from surgery after just one month, but then five months later the knee replacement got infected, which forced him to take more time off.During that second break, he caught the flu, which turned into pneumonia, which put him into the hospital.After he returned home, he then caught the flu again, which led to a seco

SAN FRANCISCO - Google's stock roared out of a long slumber Friday to produce the biggest shareholder windfall in U.S. history as investors rewarded the Internet company for promising to curb its spending on risky projects.A 16 percent surge in Google's publicly traded stock translated into an additional $65.1 billion in shareholder wealth, on paper at least.That barely topped the previous record one-day gain of $65 billion by Cisco Systems Inc.

 

Rising gas prices push up inflation in June

<span style="font-size: 12px;">WASHINGTON - Rising gasoline prices pushed inflation up modestly in June, leaving overall consumer prices higher than they were a year earlier for the first time since December.Economists say the tick up in consumer prices makes it more likely the Federal Reserve will end a policy of keeping short-term interest rates near zero for more than six years. "Rebounding inflation combined with solid employment growth will likely lead the Fed to raise rates in September," said Gregory Daco, head of U.S.

 

Turtle rescue volunteer shot in dispute about protected nest

LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA - A volunteer working to protect sea turtle nests is recovering from a gunshot wound after a dispute with a man who said he disliked sea turtles.The 72-year-old volunteer is recovering at home after he was shot in the hip late Friday during a routine volunteer shift in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.Witnesses said the dispute began when Michael Q. McAuliffe, 38, approached Stan Pannaman and another volunteer.
