Seated with a cane at her side, 86-year-old Patricia Mackin waited patiently inside a suburban senior citizens’ driver’s services facility to be called to take her road test, a requirement for people her age if they want to continue being licensed to drive. With a few minutes to spare before being escorted by a DMV employee to her car, Mackin reflected on the importance of the testing as Illinois lawmakers consider eliminating the road test requirement for drivers until they turn 87.
