Voting Rights Advocates Pledge To Keep Up Battle After Setback

Opponents of sweeping new voting restrictions in North Carolina on Tuesday appealed a federal judge’s decision to uphold them in the battleground state, extending what is seen as a central legal fight for one of President Barack Obama’s key remaining priorities. Civil rights and faith groups are keeping up their battle against the Republican-controlled legislature’s moves in 2013 to shorten early voting periods, eliminate same-day registration and implement voter ID requirements.
