Wall Street midday: Stocks advance after Fed pledges more stimulus

NEW YORK — Stocks rose, extending a winning streak, after the Federal Reserve said it will continue to provide stimulus to support the U.S. economy. The Dow Jones industrial average was up 63 points at 13,311 as of 1 p.m. in New York.

 

Suspect arrested in assault of 69-year-old man outside Springfield church

SPRINGFIELD — Police have arrested a suspect in the beating of a 69-year-old man who suffered potentially life-threatening injuries after being assaulted last week outside his Springfield church. Matthew Allen Kegley, 29, of Springfield, is being held in the Lane County Jail on a felony charge of second-degree assault.

 

Police ID man killed by train in Eugene

A Southern Oregon man has been identified as the person who was struck and killed by a freight train in Eugene on Monday. Police identified the victim as Thomas Howard King, 51.

Bend man shoots self while loading new gun

BEND — A man who just bought a gun Tuesday in Bend went back in the store a few minutes later seeking medical help. Police say the man shot himself through his left hand while loading the .22-caliber Derringer in his truck.

Pedestrian seriously injured after struck by van on Royal Avenue

A pedestrian was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle in west Eugene early this evening, police said. The pedestrian, a 58-year-old Eugene resident, was hit while crossing Royal Avenue diagonally between Danebo Avenue and Candlelight Drive, witnesses told police.
