A new law limiting opioid prescriptions for pain to a seven day supply takes effect this Sunday, July 1.P.A. 251 is part of a legislative package signed by Lt. Gov. Brian Calley last December to address the opioid crisis and specifically limits an acute pain prescription to a seven day supply within a seven day period.

 

West Nile virus found in Oakland County mosquitoes, no human cases reported

West Nile virus was detected in the first Oakland County mosquitos tested in 2018, health division officials said.No confirmed human cases of the virus have occurred in the county this year. "West Nile virus is typically detected from June through September," said Leigh-Anne Stafford, health officer for the Oakland County Health Division.

Ferndale plans expansion, upgrade of small downtown park

Ferndale is working to expand its smallest park to create a green gathering and event space in the downtown by this fall.Schiffer Park at the corner of Planavon and West Nine Mile Road is easy to miss at just over 5,400 square feet.
