Joel Walrath of Farmington Hills is the winner of Lake Michigan Credit Union's sixth annual Home Makeover Giveaway.There were more than 529,000 entries submitted online and at branch locations. Walrath's winning entry was selected in a random drawing on Monday, June 11. Joel and his wife Alena, both Lake Michigan Credit Union members, were presented with a check for $50,000 on June 14.

Mary and Bill Schwark of Birmingham have lived in their centennial home since 2001. The home, completely redesigned and renovated in 1999, is in a section of the city nicknamed "Little San Francisco." The Schwark garden will be one of seven gardens featured on Wednesday, July 11 during the 44th annual Invitation to the Gardens.

Nearly 50 incoming Oakland Community College students received the Chancellor's Scholarship, attending their first year academic year with tuition and fees fully covered.The annual scholarship, worth $3,500 to each awardee, is available to at least one student from every public and private Oakland County high school and adult education center.

The 51st District Court in Waterford will hold a two week ticket amnesty program later this month. From July 30 to Aug. 10, the court will waive late fees and penalties for tickets issued in Waterford Township by Waterford police, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office and the Michigan State Police.

The Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library Holiday Home Tour is now looking for homes to be included in this year's tour. The program is set to run from noon to 5 p.m. on Dec. 9. Tickets are sold in advance and patrons get a map to drive to the open houses during tour hours. Organizers are looking for homes that are decked out indoors for year-end celebrations with decorations focused on seasonal themes.
