New connection between 2 street killings

A Wednesday bond hearing in one of Lancaster’s recent street killings revealed a suspected connection between that case and another murder two weeks later.
Prosecutors asserted that Allen Cooper, a 17-year-old Lancaster High basketball player killed April 26 outside Hope on the Hill, participated in the April 11 drive-by murder of Mar’Quise “Mini Me” Evans.

 

West Meeting power outage closes two county offices for the day

A Wednesday morning power outage in the Meeting Street corridor has prompted Lancaster County to close two offices and curtail activities at a third for the day.
The Lancaster County Economic Department and Lancaster County Veteran Affairs offices, both in the 1000 block of West Meeting Street, are closed.
Also, most activities at Springdale Recreation Complex, 260 S. Plantation Road, have been suspended for the day.

Nine candidates filed for the four town council seats in Van Wyck’s upcoming inaugural election, but just one person signed up to be mayor – Sean Corcoran.
Corcoran, 42, was one of three incorporation commissioners who led the last stages of the organizing effort.

 

Irma's Impact

Tropical Storm Irma left Lancaster County littered with debris and 1,400 power outages on Tuesday as it spun past the state and into the Tennessee Valley.

The outer bands of Irma moved through Lancaster County overnight, leaving more than 1,200 homes without power and scattered debris and downed trees in many places.

At daybreak, winds were light and rain was still falling.

Lancaster County schools were on a two-hour delay after being canceled Monday.

At 7 a.m., Duke Energy reported 1,269 customers without power in the county and said its crews would work as quickly as possible today to get service back on..

Lancaster County started feeling the impact of Irma on Monday.

Just after 1:30 p.m., Duke Energy reported 200 power outages in the county. The company estimated it would have the power back on for those customers by 5:15 p.m.

The storm also prompted the postponement of Monday’s 6 p.m. county council meeting, which has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, said County Administrator Steve Willis.
