Traffic light is next safety measure for Strawberry Hill

STAMFORD — A traffic light proposed for Strawberry Hill Avenue is next in a series of planned safety measures for the busy street fronting Stamford High School, where a student was struck and killed by a car last month.

“People are afraid, and they shouldn’t be,” said David Avery, president of the Strawberry Hill Neighborhood Association, an organization formed in response to traffic concerns.

Cops: Stamford parolee caught with heroin, crack, gun

STAMFORD — A city man with a lengthy criminal record is back in jail after police found him Thursday with heroin, crack cocaine, cash and a pistol, authorities said.

Though water is visible on both sides of the bottle, the sophisticated container allows smugglers to conceal drugs in the area behind the label, the captain said.

After the arrest, police searched Elis’s Ivy Street home, where they found a semi-automatic .40 caliber pistol loaded with 10 rounds, another 40 rounds and nearly $2,100 in cash, Conklin said.

 

Stamford pizza deliveryman robbed at gunpoint

STAMFORD — Police are searching for two men who robbed a pizza deliveryman at gunpoint at an East Side apartment complex Thursday evening.

In October, at least two Chinese food delivery drivers were robbed in similar incidents on Connecticut Avenue.

 

Pair arrested after rush-hour car chase in Stamford

The incident began about 5 p.m. when one of the two men tried to buy a product at a Sprint phone store, 53 High Ridge Road, under another person’s name, according to the report.

The two men were taken into custody without incident and were each charged with conspiracy at third-degree identity theft, conspiracy at third-degree forgery and two counts each of third-degree identity theft and second-degree forgery.

Kelly, who was driving, was also charged with engaging police in a pursuit, driving with a suspended license and reckless driving.

 

Stamford woman arrested after dogs found in poor condition

When officers arrived, two adult dogs were tied to a tree and two puppies were in an “extremely dirty” outdoor pent, Lt. Nick Montagnese said.

Police said the adults dogs were released to the owner, but the puppies remain in Animal Control custody.

 

Stamford man charged with running up $8k bill on uncle’s credit card

Knowing there was a warrant for his arrest for wiping out his uncle’s credit card, he was searched and found to be holding prescription medications that led to more charges being filed against him.

According to Ofiero’s arrest affidavit, Ofiero’s uncle complained to police in September that his nephew put $7,500 worth of purchases without permission while staying at the Sheraton Hotel in June.

 

Man freed after mistrial declared in Stamford rape case

STAMFORD-A week after a judge declared a mistrial in his rape case, a Stamford man accepted a plea bargain that could get him released from jail immediately.

At a brief hearing at the Stamford courthouse on Thursday morning, Darris Frazier, 30, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of third-degree sexual assault and will receive a five-year suspended jail sentence when he returns to court in January.

A three-day trial ended last Thursday after a jury of four women and two men deadlocked on a vote of 4-2 to convict.

 

Necklace and bracelet torn off woman in Stamford building

STAMFORD-A brazen theft of a bracelet and necklace torn off a city woman was reported inside a Washington Boulevard office building early Wednesday afternoon, police said. The suspect is a black male, about 5-foot eight in height, wearing mirrored sunglasses with black pants.

 

Phoney credit gets Stamford man jailed for pizza and rail rides

STAMFORD-A city man was arrested for allegedly using stolen credit card information to purchase train tickets and pizza at downtown Italian restaurant that is popular lunch-time haunt for police officers.

Sgt. Sean Scanlan said Saldana used stolen credit card information to order food several times from the pizza parlor as well as multiple Amtrak tickets from New York City to Stamford and Boston.
