Faber speaks at Lima GOP luncheon

LIMA — State Rep. Keith Faber, R-Celina, renewed old acquaintances Friday as the guest speaker at the Allen County Republican Party’s monthly luncheon.
A one-time state senator and senate president whose former district included Allen County, Faber currently represents the 84th House district, which includes Mercer County as well as portions of Auglaize, Darke and Shelby counties at the Statehouse.

WASHINGTON — There is something eternally bonding about a shared near-death experience, which is how I first met Michael Cromartie.
This was 15 or so years ago, before I had moved to the nation’s capital for an up-close look at power. Cromartie had called to invite me to one of the Faith Angle Forums he hosted for a select group of journalists and scholars to discuss religion in the public square. I happened to be driving when my cellphone rang.

September is Safe Driving Awareness Month

FINDLAY — September is Safe Driving Awareness Month, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol is asking motorists to commit to driving buckled, focused and sober. In addition, motorists can help keep roadways safe by planning ahead, allowing for extra time and being knowledgeable of traffic safety laws.
According to Lt. Matt Crow, commander of the Findlay post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, last year 1,133 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes. Although fatal crashes rose slightly in 2016, Ohio is still on pace with record low fatal numbers.

 

Delphos sisters turn tragedy to triumph with jam and jelly business

DELPHOS — When Cindy Schwinnen’s husband passed away five years ago, the Delphos resident needed something to pull her out of the rut she was in.
Thanks to her sister, Patti Bonifas, and possibly some signs from above, the duo decided that using their cooking skills would be the perfect outlet. A half-decade later, local residents can find O’Sister Jams and Jellies at just about every farmers’ market and craft show in the region.

 

Lima Symphony Orchestra holding chorus auditions

ELIDA — The Lima Symphony Chorus is holding auditions from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at Elida High School, 401 E. North St., Elida.
Auditions will consist of checking range, singing an unaccompanied solo of one’s choice, ear retention and sight reading.

John Silone, the sole owner of A Blind Factory, has installed blinds in some of the most well-known businesses, restaurants and homes in the Lima area, according to a press release. He is an authorized dealer for Hunter Douglas brand products, and offers sales and service of all its items. Silone also offers free estimates and installation.
