Home remedies: fighting a fever

You can try a number of things to make yourself or your child more comfortable during a fever:
• Drink plenty of fluids. Fever can cause fluid loss and dehydration, so drink water, juices or broth. For a child under age 1, use an oral rehydration solution such as Pedialyte. These solutions contain water and salts proportioned to replenish fluids and electrolytes. Pedialyte ice pops also are available.
• Rest. You need rest to recover, and activity can raise your body temperature.

WAYNESFIELD — Cap Henry took the lead at the white flag at Waynesfield Raceway Park on Sunday night in the All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads FAST 410 Championship Series presented by Ohio Logistics feature and drove to his second victory of 2017. Henry, who started 10th in the 30-lap feature, executed a perfect “slider” on Cale Thomas in turns three and four for the victory.
“This team doesn’t have a lot of money. But they work hard and are dedicated and I can’t thank them enough for the opportunity,” Henry said.

 

Inmate dies after altercation with deputies

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — An investigation is underway after an Ohio jail inmate died following an altercation with sheriff’s deputies.
The Summit County Medical Examiner says inmate Anthony Jones died Saturday night. The 36-year-old Jones was hospitalized after the Friday morning incident in a secure part of the county jail.
Bill Holland, spokesman for the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, tells the Akron Beacon Journal two deputies sustained minor injuries.

US envoy: North Korea ‘begging for war’

NEW YORK — North Korea’s leader is “begging for war,” the U.S. ambassador said Monday at an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council, as members called for punishing the country with even stronger sanctions for its powerful nuclear test.
Ambassador Nikki Haley said the U.S. would look at countries doing business with the North — which include China — and planned to circulate a resolution this week with the goal of getting it approved Sept. 11.

 

Trial to begin for man accused of killing girlfriend

LIMA — Jury selection will get under way Tuesday morning in Allen County Common Pleas Court in the murder trial of a man charged in the Dec. 21, 2016, killing of his girlfriend.
Leo Stapleton, 49, is charged in the slaying of 40-year-old Kimberly Clark. Clark’s body was found inside her apartment at 118 S. Metcalf St., Lima. There were signs of foul play in the apartment that led police to label her death a homicide, a Lima detective said.
Allen County Common Pleas Judge David Cheney will preside over the case.

Kathleen Parker: The message in the storm

WASHINGTON — Nobody wants to pick on Texas, or especially Houston, after a 1,000-year weather event that for several days turned the city into a lake and dispossessed thousands of their homes, belongings and, in some cases, loved ones.
The ultimate effects of the storm blandly named Harvey are yet to be fully understood. What is known is that most of the homes destroyed were uninsured for flooding and that U.S. taxpayers will be doing much of the bailing.
