Lima man pleads guilty to murder

LIMA — A 49-year-old Lima man pleaded guilty to the murder of his girlfriend today. He faces up to life in prison when he’s sentenced.
Leo Stapleton, 49, was charged in the slaying of 40-year-old Kimberly Clark. Clark’s body was found inside her apartment at 118 S. Metcalf St., Lima., on Dec. 21, 2016. There were signs of foul play in the apartment that led police to label her death a homicide, a Lima detective said.

 

Johnny Appleseed Parks hosting walking series

LIMA — The Johnny Appleseed Parks will be hosting its Walking Thru Autumn Hiking series beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Ottawa Metro Park, 2632 Ada Road, Lima. Pre-register by calling 419-221-1232.
Hand-made walking sticks are available for purchase at $10. If participants walk in six out of the eight hikes, they are eligible to receive a Metro Parks hiking medallion.
The public is welcome to join in for any of the hikes but will not be eligible for a medallion.

Long-serving Youngstown Democrat Harry Meshel dies at 93

YOUNGSTOWN — A powerful Youngstown Democrat who began his decades-long political career organizing for candidate John F. Kennedy in 1960 has died. Former state senator and state party chairman Harry Meshel was 93.
Ohio Democratic Chairman David Pepper says Meshel died Monday after a long illness.
A graduate of Youngstown College and Columbia University who had served in World War II, Meshel ran unsuccessfully for local office before first landing a seat in the Ohio Senate in 1970.

 

Support group for depression and bi-polar individuals and family set in Kenton

KENTON — Shelter from the Storm, a depression and bi-polar support group for individuals, family or friends, will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evenings, at We Care Center, 775 Eliza St., Kenton.

Get This: Kitten walking on highway rescued after traffic is shut down

BOSTON (AP) — A kitten found walking in a busy Massachusetts highway tunnel has been rescued with the help of state police troopers who shut down traffic for it.
Police said Sunday on Facebook the kitten decided to “play a little hide and seek” in the Ted Williams Tunnel in Boston.
Sgt. Bob Dateo shut traffic down. The Animal Rescue League of Boston quickly rescued the kitten.
A trooper posted a photo of the wayward kitten on social media. A video taken by police shows the kitten walking along the side of the road as cars drive by.

A picture of my four beautiful granddaughters is a daily reminder of what we are trying to accomplish here in the General Assembly. As tough as it is at times, the only thing that pulls me away from spending time with those smiling faces is the understanding that the decisions I make here are right for my constituents in Northwest Ohio, and that we are creating a climate for economic development.

My American Heritage Dictionary of the English language defines “eclipse” as “a partial or complete obscuring … of one celestial body by another.” Eclipse also means “to surpass or outshine,” as in “the total solar eclipse on August 21 eclipsed all my expectations.”
Of course the visitors and guests we welcomed to the Nebraska Sandhills made this event even more memorable. My house was full of Germans and Californians … quite a party.
