Police: Shots fired at man; Savannah College of Art and Design building hit

Police say someone tried to shoot a man near downtown Wednesday morning and a bullet hit an occupied Savannah College of Art and Design building.
A 27-year-old man was walking through a Fred Wessels Homes courtyard by the 100 block of East Broad Street about 10:45 a.m. when a male suspect walked up to him with a gun.
As the victim passed by, the suspect started firing, said Sonny Cohrs, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman.
The victim got away safely, but a stray bullet struck Norris Hall at East Broughton and East Broad streets. No injuries were reported.

 

Flock of sheep escape, wander along suburban Atlanta road

BROOKHAVEN — Police in suburban Atlanta found themselves counting sheep after a flock escaped an enclosure and blocked a road.Brookhaven police said in a news release that about 20 grazing sheep and their security dogs were spotted along a road early Wednesday.Police say they were able to contact the herder, who used a sheepdog to corral them back into their nearby enclosure.Investigators say they're not planning to file charges for blocking the roadway or impeding traffic.

 

Savannah-Chatham police arrest 15-year-old for armed robbery

The Savannah-Chatham police department arrested a 15-year-old boy for armed robbery at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday near the Truman Parkway overpass at Bee Road and East Anderson Street.The suspect, armed with a handgun, reportedly robbed a 17-year-old male who was on his way home from school, said Sonny Cohrs, spokesman for Savannah-Chatham police. The suspect was apprehended in the 1100 block of East 32nd Street after a brief pursuit. The teen was transported to the Regional Youth Detention Center without further incident, Cohrs said.

WASHINGTON — Surgeons in Baltimore for the first time have transplanted organs between an HIV-positive donor and HIV-positive recipients, a long-awaited new option for patients with the AIDS virus whose kidneys or livers also are failing.
Johns Hopkins University announced Wednesday that both recipients are recovering well after one received a kidney and the other a liver from a deceased donor — organs that ordinarily would have been thrown away because of the HIV infection.
