Atlanta Dogwood Festival enters final day at Piedmont Park

ATLANTA — Atlanta's longest-running festival is entering its final day at a popular midtown park.Thousands are expected to attend the 80th annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival at Piedmont Park on Sunday. The three-day festival is regarded as the kick-off to spring and the third-oldest fine arts festival in the country.The event involves more than 260 fine arts, live music, a high school art exhibition, the Eco-Village, gourmet and festival fare, midway rides and games. The festival runs from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.

SR 204/Abercorn Street Resurfacing Project Starts Sunday

Contractors for Georgia DOT will be installing lane closures to resurface S.R. 204/Abercorn Street between King George Boulevard and Gateway Boulevard in Chatham County.These closures are scheduled nightly from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. beginning Sunday, April 10 through Thursday, April 14. All work is weather contingent. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.This $1.5 million resurfacing project was awarded to Preferred Materials, Inc. of Savannah and should be completed late summer of this year.

 

SCMPD INVESTIGATES ARMED ROBBERIES

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department Robbery detectives are investigating two armed robberies that occurred overnight.The first armed robbery occurred at approximately 2 a.m., April 10, in the 500 block of East Bryan Street. The 66-year-old male victim was reportedly robbed gunpoint by two black males while he was walking east bound on E. Bryan. The darker-skinned male wore an un-kept, afro-style haircut. The lighter-skinned suspect had his face was covered with a blue bandana.
