Bend Sears store to close

The Sears department store and the Sears Auto Center at the Bend River Promenade on Northeast Third Street will close in mid-December, a spokesman for the parent company confirmed today. No other Sears stores in the region will close, according to Howard Riefs director of corporate communications for Sears Holdings Corp.

Redmond fountain will be excavated

The Redmond city splash park, summer’s biggest draw at downtown Centennial Park, closed a couple of weeks earlier than normal this year.Turned off every year in late September since its opening in 2010, the spray fountain was found to be inoperable the week after Labor Day.

 

Trucker found dead in Chemult

A commercial truck driver was found dead at a Chemult truck stop on Monday morning, according to a release from Oregon State Police.A state police trooper responded to a welfare call by a commercial trucking company after one of its employees failed to check in.

 

Little change in jobless rates

August unemployment rates in Central Oregon were largely unchanged from July, the fifth straight month of stagnant job growth, the Oregon Employment Department announced Monday.Deschutes County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 9.9 percent in August, down from 10 percent in July, according to a news release.
