Hoedown for Hunger planned

Bend’s Community Center will host the eighth annual Hoedown for Hunger from 1 to 9 p. m. Nov. 2 at the center, 1036 N. E. Fifth St., Bend. The fundraiser highlights local music and raises funds for BCC’s Feed the Hungry program.The Hoedown will feature a full day of Americana, folk and bluegrass music by local bands, including Quincy Street, the Runway Ranch Band and the Bitterbrush Band. Attendees will receive all-you-can-eat chili donated by local restaurants as well as desserts from local bakeries. Beer and wine will be available.

Low river flow kills fish; Video: Woman leads fish rescue effort

Hefting buckets, nets and an aerator, Kim Brannock and her family set out Friday morning to help stranded fish in a dwindling pool in a dry channel of the Deschutes River close to Bend.Going on tips from a fish biologist friend, Brannock used the nets to scoop the fish showing the most life into the buckets, where the aerator gave them a boost of oxygen.

Portland-based Nouvola takes BVC prize

Nouvola, a Portland-based startup that helps small- to medium-sized companies scale their websites for higher traffic, took home the $250,000 prize for the launch-stage competition today at the 10th annual Bend Venture Conference.“This is like our great opportunity to realize the dream we’ve been dreaming for the last year," said Paola Rossaro, co-founder and CTO.
