Juvenile suspected of July 19 fire opposite Farewell Bend

Sheriff updates evacuation orders for Browns Creek/Wickiup fire

The evacuation order for North Twin Lake and South Twin Lake campgrounds, imposed Sunday during a fire at Wickiup Reservoir, has been lifted, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office.However, Forest service Road 42 from 4260 Road to Cascade Lakes Highway remains closed.

The U. S. Forest Service evacuated four campgrounds in south Deschutes County this afternoon, as crews battle a new blaze near Wickiup Reservoir called the Browns Creek Fire.Cascade Lakes Highway remains open, but Forest Service Road 42 is closed due to fire-related traffic. The fire was reported around 1 p.m. and the cause is currently unknown.

 

Minor injuries in Sisters crash

A vehicle crash on the west side of Sisters Saturday afternoon blocked a portion of U. S. Highway 20 and caused minor injuries for the occupants of one vehicle.According to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, David Elliot, 20, of Sisters, was attempting to cross the highway at Barclay Drive shortly after 12:30 p.m.

WASHINGTON — The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved $595 billion in funding for the Defense Department next year, including provisions that give the Pentagon more flexibility to deal with sequestration. This year, some Defense Department employees have been furloughed due to mandatory spending cuts that went into effect in March. The new bill provides $82.3 billion in operations funding for active wars and $512.5 billion in non-war funds. The measure passed by a 315-109 vote, with 220 Republicans and 95 Democrats voting yes.
