Dutch prosecutors: Reporter expelled by Turkey is a suspect

ANKARA, Turkey — Turkey deported a Dutch journalist on Thursday after receiving information about her from prosecutors in the Netherlands involved in a terrorism investigation. A Dutch prosecutor’s office spokeswoman said the reporter is a suspect in an investigation, but not for terrorism offenses.
The spokeswoman declined to elaborate on the nature of the suspicions against the reporter, Ans Boersma.

 

FBI: Man wanted to attack White House with antitank rocket

ATLANTA — A Georgia man who traded his car for an antitank rocket, guns and explosives in a plot to storm the White House is under arrest, authorities said.
Hasher Jallal Taheb, 21, of Cumming, was arrested in an FBI sting operation Wednesday and is charged with attempting to damage or destroy a building owned by the United States using fire or an explosive, U.S. Attorney Byung J. “BJay” Pak said.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether Taheb had an attorney who could comment on the allegations.

 

Police seek information on deer poaching in wildlife area

WALLA WALLA — Authorities say five white-tailed deer were poached near the W.T. Wooten Wildlife Area in southeastern Washington.
The Walla Walla Union-Bulletin reports a person found the deer partially butchered at a campground in the wildlife area Tuesday and contacted state Department of Fish and Wildlife police.
Authorities say the deer appeared to have been shot during the night or early morning of Monday or Tuesday.
The deer were then taken to the campground in Columbia County to be butchered. Only the backstraps and hindquarters were taken.

 

Chief: Louisiana officer was fatally shot by her boyfriend

SHREVEPORT, La. — The man who killed a Louisiana police officer as she left for work was her boyfriend and the father of her child, authorities said.
At a news conference Wednesday, Shreveport Police Chief Ben Raymond said Treveon Anderson, 26, shot and killed Officer Chateri Payne on Jan. 9.
“We believe Anderson shot and killed her, then concocted the false narrative of her being murdered by an unknown suspect,” Raymond told news outlets.

Pedestrian on I-5 struck, killed by semi in Skagit County

BELLINGHAM — A pedestrian on Interstate 5 was struck and killed by a semitruck driven by a 42-year-old Deming man in Skagit County north of Burlington Tuesday night.
According to the Washington State Patrol release on the incident, which occurred at approximately 7:16 p.m., the pedestrian was in the left lane of southbound I-5, just north of milepost 229.
A black 2016 Kenworth semi driven by Rustin R. Graham fatally struck the pedestrian, according to the release.
The name of the pedestrian has not been released while next of kin is notified.
