Sylvia Carlson of Quincy, a retired schoolteacher and amateur photographer, is celebrating her 104th birthday today, Nov. 14. The longtime Quincy elementary school teacher is doing well after being rescued during the blizzard this past February, but she’s decided it’s time for assisted living.

The death of a dog that was hit by a car after escaping from a North Weymouth dog day care and kennel won’t result in sanctions against the facility, the town’s animal control officer said Wednesday. The death of a 3-year-old terrier mix named Tukka on Sunday was the second time in less than 15 months a dog has died while under the care of Land of Pawz on Bridge Street.

Massachusetts Audubon Society personnel and volunteers braved Tuesday night’s frigid temperatures to rescue 17 sea turtles on Cape Cod. The turtles were brought to the New England Aquarium’s Animal Care Center in Quincy for treatment.

Police: Easton man used Facebook, club drug molly to lure child into sex

Christopher Biggins, 30, an Easton resident, is now behind bars after police said he used the club drug known as “molly,” a form of Ecstasy, and social media to lure a child into sex. Easton Police Chief Allen Krajcik said Wednesday there may be other possible victims.

Bridgewater man accused in murder of Brockton man held without bail

A Bridgewater man who led local authorities on a manhunt after the alleged fatal stabbing of a Brockton man in August was ordered held without bail at an arraignment in superior court, Wednesday.
