DNC staffer’s parents sue Fox News

NEW YORK — The parents of a Democratic National Committee employee who was killed in 2016 allege Fox News exploited the slaying of their son as a “political football.”Joel and Mary Rich claim in a lawsuit that Fox News, a reporter and a guest commentator used “lies, misrepresentations and half-truths” in a May 16, 2017, article that claimed their son, Seth Rich, had leaked DNC emails to WikiLeaks during the presidential campaign.

Historic black church with W.E.B. Du Bois ties gets grant

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Preservationists for a 130-year-old black church with ties to civil rights pioneer W.E.B. Du Bois have received federal grant money to turn it into a community center.The Berkshire Eagle reports the Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area was awarded $389,000 Tuesday to restore the Clinton AME Zion Church in Great Barrington, near the New York and Connecticut borders.The National Park Service African American Civil Rights Grants Program awarded the grant.

Power surge, wire issues spur morning of MBTA glitches

Some unlucky Green Line riders were stranded inside trains for nearly an hour this morning while crews tried to make repairs at Boylston Station.“The train just stopped going, then it lurched a couple times,” said Jonas Galper, who was on a Green Line train this morning. “We were stopped a total of 45 minutes.”Galper said his train was stuck a few hundred feet before the Hynes Convention Center, but eventually inched forward enough for people to get off. He decided to walk to his job at Tufts Medical Center.

Herring fishing will be limited off East Coast rest of year

BOSTON — Some vessels that harvest herring off the East Coast will be limited in how much they can bring to shore for the rest of the year.Herring is a major fish population in the Atlantic Ocean, where the little fish are harvested for use as bait, food and fish oil. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says some herring boats in the southern New England and mid-Atlantic areas have reached a limit for the amount of shad and river herring they are allowed to catch.
