The hiring process is under way at the Fleet Readiness Center Southeast in Jacksonville to find capable employees who will eventually be working to maintain the Marine One presidential helicopter fleet after negotiations with a private company recently fell through.
An official announcement to move the maintenance work to Jacksonville has not been made by the U.S. Navy, but job opportunities have been posted online in anticipation of the decision, said Terresa White, spokeswoman for Fleet Readiness Center.

After concerns were raised by an Atlantic Beach commissioner about communication at City Hall, the city is hosting a roundtable discussion Saturday at the Adele Grage Cultural Center in hopes of fixing the problems.
Mayor Mitch Reeves said he’s hopeful positive things can be worked out for the betterment of the community. The meeting, which is open to the public, starts at 10 a.m.

The St. Johns River Taxi will run for extended hours for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifying soccer match between the U.S. men’s national team and Trinidad and Tobago at EverBank Field.
The boats will be operated on 20-minute intervals from all downtown stops beginning at 5:30 p.m. and will continue until the Metropolitan Marina dock is cleared after the game.
Tickets are sold on the boats for $5 cash only each way.

More than half a century after being taken apart, sent down the St. Johns River and put back together, a church on Norwood Avenue is undergoing big changes.
In 1925, a small group of men and women started Norwood Baptist Church and held their services in a building on Crestwood Street before moving to Kenmore Street three years later, according to church records.
The church then bought an Army chapel from Camp Blanding in 1948 and sent it down the river in sections to its new home at Norwood Avenue and Calvert Street.

A recount shows incumbent Judge Mark Hulsey won re-election by defeating challenger Gerald L. Wilkerson, an attorney, in the Fourth Judicial Circuit.
Hulsey, who is under investigation by a state judicial panel, edged out Wilkerson by 0.4 percent or 753 votes to retain the bench in the circuit including Clay, Duval and Nassau counties, according to the Florida Divisions of Elections website Sunday.
