The spring's first hour-long "American Idol" results show was down, especially with young viewers, but it still coupled with a new episode of "Bones" to give FOX key Thursday night wins, holding off CBS, which also aired a full slate of originals.
After the disastrous "Lone Star" premiere left FOX miserable on Monday, a smashing Tuesday launch for "Glee" gave the network something to smile about. The second year sensation crushed CBS' reliable hit "NCIS" in all key young adult demos and carried FOX to a Tuesday win among young viewers, though "NCIS" still won handily overall and gave CBS a Tuesday in overall.
The finale was up 4 percent in total viewers over last week, averaging 9.3 million over a two-hour span that saw Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) sent off to an uncertain future on the international lam.
On a night of big finales on NBC, CBS, ABC and FOX, it was the two-hour "Grey's Anatomy" season-ender that ruled. But once again, ABC's already cancelled "FlashForward" delivered low enough ratings to help CBS split the night.
TV News: 'Big Bang' tops night while 'Stars' leads in viewers -- ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" was Monday's most-watched program overall, but it was CBS (led by the night's top show, "The Big Bang Theory") and Fox (with the season finale of "House") that tied for demo supremacy.
With its power hitters, "Glee" and "American Idol," at the plate Tuesday night, Fox won the adult 18-49 race for a third consecutive evening, with the former freshman series becoming the top-rated scripted series of the season in the process.
Wednesday night's "American Idol" produced typically dominating results for FOX, but the massive drop to "Human Target" at 9 p.m. probably has to concern the network.
The already-cancelled "Dollhouse" returned to FOX on Friday night with a two-hour block of episodes and the results were fairly predictable. While the first hour was up very slightly from the show's last airing, by the second hour, "Dollhouse" had fallen under 2 million viewers.
World Series tops night yet again -- Fox won out over its broadcast rivals on the first Monday of November behind the fifth game of the World Series, which was down from Monday's high but still packed a punch.
TV News: 'Teen Choice Awards' airs quietly on Fox -- An all-repeat lineup, led by a strong outing by "The Big Bang Theory" in its new timeslot, carried CBS to an easy victory in key demos on Monday, a night that saw nothing-special numbers for the "Teen Choice Awards" on Fox.
