HUNTINGTON STATION, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a transformer fire forced the evacuation of a section of a Long Island mall. Fire officials say the fire Monday evening was in the basement near a block of restaurants at the Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington Station. A mall spokesman told Newsday (http://nwsdy.li/1C3Osle ) that the fire was in an area not connected to the rest of the mall. Officials say Bloomingdales, Panera and the Cheesecake Factory were the only areas evacuated. Power was turned off there and fans were brought in to dissipate any smoke or carbon monoxide.
