Oklahoma Building Summit Builds Up Trade Expo

By Richard Mize Real Estate Editor rmize@oklahoman.comThe Oklahoma Building Summit continues Thursday with expert speakers and a trade expo that has grown along with the event the past decade. Some 70 exhibitors, from A to Z Inspections to Waterproofers Inc., take the summit a long way toward organizers' idea of the event becoming a state-level version of the annual International Builders' Show. Lighting, roofing, storm shelters, paint, appliances, brick, financing — suppliers and related businesses have the floor during and between sessions at the summit, organized by the Oklahoma State Home Builders Association. The trade show is "an integral part of this year's summit" and matches topics explored during sessions, said David Blackburn, owner of Classe' Homes in Tulsa and association president. "This gives the builders an opportunity to visit with the vendors and suppliers of the products used to meet what their education requires — a win-win for the builders and the providers," Blackburn said in promotion for the event online. The language of building Thursday, builders and others will hear experts on sales, marketing and customer service, finding hidden profits, and promoting "high-performance" homes.
