They'll use the HV battery and drive motor to start the engine if it can, but if the hybrid battery is dead it'll crank the engine like a normal ICE car then immediately start charging the HV battery.

- What is your opinion on hybrids and/or electric cars?Hybrids are a) less taxing on the environment than BEVs to manufacture, b) can go long distances without problematic electric recharging, c) can be made less expensively than BEVs. When BEVs have electronics that allow them to be fully recharged, reliably, within 5 minutes, then the world will be ready for BEVs.

Series hybrids and series/parallel hybrids are designed for efficiency in mind where the engine is not directly connected to the wheels, mainly series/parallel is used now such as in the prius or chevy volt or any PHEV.

I used to have vivid dreams about my family being secret hybrids with glowing green eyes. It scared me so much I would sleep walk to the nearest window and scream down the street, “They’re coming!!!” before waking up panicking. I can still remember those dreams!
