Artificial intelligence companies are embracing the benefit corporation structure. But that doesn’t mean they’re working for the public good. During the Big Tech antitrust hearings in July 2020, Maryland Congressman Jamie Raskin asked the CEOs of Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google, “Are any of your companies benefit corporations, and is that something you have considered doing?” After being met with silence, he concluded, “Okay, I take it the answer is no,” and moved on.

Other than sowing confusion and public distrust, the attacks and accusations have real-life implications for the lives of the people running elections. The 2024 election is rife with controversy, from the politics of the campaigns to the politics surrounding the administration of elections. Accusations of wrongdoing and ineptitude continue to plague election officials, despite their explanations of legal compliance and process.

This app lets you take notes, organize info, plan out projects, and create documents—all in a way that’s winning over productivity power-users hungry for something that’s both familiar and new. Here’s a tantalizing little paradox to chew over: One of the most interesting up-and-coming productivity apps is also one of the most immediately familiar-feeling—on the surface, at least.
