Don’t Be Fooled By Ai Companies’ ‘ethics Washing’

Artificial intelligence companies are embracing the benefit corporation structure. But that doesn’t mean they’re working for the public good. During the Big Tech antitrust hearings in July 2020, Maryland Congressman Jamie Raskin asked the CEOs of Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google, “Are any of your companies benefit corporations, and is that something you have considered doing?” After being met with silence, he concluded, “Okay, I take it the answer is no,” and moved on.
