A McCullom Lake man was sentenced to 45 years in prison after pleading guilty Monday to shooting and killing his father in 2015. Michael L. Bakker agreed to a plea deal offering him the minimum penalty for the first-degree murder he was faced with. The 49-year-old entered a specific kind of guilty plea that acknowledges prosecutors had enough evidence to convict him at trial, but allows him to personally maintain his innocence. Bakker has long claimed the shooting of his father, Daniel Bakker was an accident, his attorney, Assistant Public Defender Kim Messer said. A bench trial for the case was scheduled to begin Tuesday. On Sept.
