KINGSPORT - James D. Overbay, 79, of Kingsport, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at his residence. JD resided in Kingsport for his entire life. He enjoyed fishing and golfing, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. JD was of the Methodist faith and had served in the United States Army. He is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Letha Overbay; parents, Juanita and William Overbay; sisters Helen Dunn and Peggy Bailey; sisters-in-law, Joan Overbay and Portia Overbay; and grandson Ricky Dawson. Those left to cherish JD’s memory include his son, Rick Overbay and girlfriend Beth; brothers, Benny Overbay and wife Christine, Isaac Overbay, Clifton Overbay, and Jerry Overbay and wife Dolly; sisters, Lillian Lane, Mary Tucker and Thelma Hale; and special friend Louise Shipman. The family will receive friends on Monday October 15, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at East Lawn Funeral Home.
